It’s best to buy a Day Pass ($4.50) when you get on the first bus — assuming you’ll be making a same-day round-trip. Santa Cruz Metro doesn’t have transfers.

1st Step: 71 bus to Watsonville Transit Center

You will use the Santa Cruz Metropolitan Transit District Route 71 bus to get from Santa Cruz to the Watsonville Transit Center. Santa Cruz Metro has clean, comfortable buses. You can bring food on board.

Finding the 71 bus

Route 71 buses leave from Lane 4 of Pacific Station (Metro Center). This lane is on the far side of the transit center. Be alert, because the bus can stop anywhere along the lane. Check the destination sign or listen for the automated announcement to make sure that you are getting on a 71 bus. Avoid all other buses.

Planning your trip

It’s not necessary to plan your Home Depot shopping trip in advance. The 71 bus runs every 15 minutes to an hour and the 75 bus, every hour. In case you do have to wait, Pacific Station (Metro Center) and the Watsonville Transit Center have indoor waiting areas, restrooms, water fountains, telephones, and food vendors. The bus stop at Home Depot has a shelter.

To minimize connection time in Watsonville, try to pick a 71 bus that leaves Pacific Station (Metro Center) 45 minutes after the hour (schedules accurate as of February, 2005).
